There are so many important and exciting committees at Hunter! The bulk of our work as an organization gets completed at the committee-level. Reach out to any chair if you would like to get involved and help out. Our committee chairs can find a volunteer opportunity that interests you and will fit your schedule!







Advocacy

Description:

  • Oversees, engages, and reports on the activities of the Advocacy Committees.

  • Advocates on a school-wide, local, and state level for students in conjunction with the President.

  • Recruits and maintains members for various Advocacy committees

  • Seeks to provide advocacy for professional development, supplies, and equity for Hunter and Wake County students and staff members.

    Description: Equity subcommittee works to create an inclusive environment for Hunter’s diverse student body, to incorporate Hunter’s 95 year history into the school today and to be cognizant of the schools relationship with the surrounding neighborhood.

    Description: Student Services provides emotional, social, and material support for students and their families through Backpack Buddies, Seasonal Drives, our parent volunteer programming, student tutoring, and social and emotional programming for our students and families.

    Description: An event for all Hunter families where we share a meal and then families join discussion groups to all families to get to know each other and grow our Hunter community

    Description: BackPack Buddies is designed to provide children experiencing food insecurity with nutritious, kid-friendly, pre-packed meals for the weekend—when they would not have access to a school’s free lunch and breakfast.

    Description: Reach out to families in need via programs such as the coat drive, Thanksgiving food drive, holiday gift-giving and tutoring.

Ways & Means

Description: Oversees and reports on the activities of the Fall Fundraiser, Labels and Offers and Move-a-Thon committees.

    Description: Organize Hunter’s major, no-fuss fundraising effort “Reach for the Stars.” The fundraiser has a two-week push in October, with some work involved preparing for the fundraiser (creating and implementing promotional and marketing plans) in late summer and early fall.

    Description: Organize Hunter’s spring fundraising effort, which encourages students to get pledges for laps they walk/run on the day of the event, which has typically been the Friday before Spring Break.

    Description: Create (if needed) and sell Hunter t-shirts, sweatshirts and other Hunter-branded paraphernalia.

Communications

Description: Facilitates and coordinates all communications for PTA sponsored events and activities on social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).

Operations

Description: Oversees and reports on the activities of the Building & Grounds, Membership and Media Center Committees

    Description: Maintain and improve school grounds including the courtyard and playgrounds. Coordinate with the PTA Board and Principal to plan and carry out landscaping.

    Description: Assist media faculty and staff with ongoing operations of the media center. Volunteers generally work a few hours one morning or afternoon per week. If you plan to arrive early to carpool pickup, this would be a great way to help.

Hospitality

Description: Oversees all hospitality, staff appreciation, and welcoming activities related to ongoing hospitality endeavors at Hunter, including but not limited to Popsicles on the Playground, Coffee and Kleenex, etc. See ways to get involved with the Hospitality Committee

    Description: Plan and coordinate “thank yous” for our teachers and staff throughout the year, including Teacher Appreciation week in May, bus driver appreciation in February, and many other celebrations along the way.
